2024-25 Division 1 Playoff Information

Please be reminded of the playoff structure instituted for this season only.
In Division 1A:
The top two eligible teams will be promoted to the Premier Division. The teams finishing 3rd place through 6th place will enter Division 1 in 2025-26. The team finishing in 7th place will enter the Division 1 Relegation Playoff - First Phase. The team finishing in 8th place will enter the Division 1 Relegation Playoff - FINAL Phase.
In Division 1B:
The top two teams will enter Division 1 in 2025-26. The team finishing in 3rd place will enter the Division 1 Relegation Playoff - First Phase. The teams finishing in 4th place and 5th place will enter the Division 1 Relegation Playoff - Second Phase. The teams finishing 6th place through 8th place will be Relegated to Division 2.
Please note that ALL PLAYOFF GAMES will be scheduled interspersed with Cup play as soon as possible to ensure the efficient conclusion of the league schedule.
All playoff games will be scheduled at a date, time and venue appointed by the League at its sole discretion. The teams will have SHARED responsibility for field set-up as necessary. This may include setting up/repairing a net and providing two corner flags. *Note: It is recommended that teams are prepared with the necessary equipment to set up the full field in case of oversight by the opposition. Fines will be charged to teams failing to be ready to set up a field.
All playoff games will feature a referee and assistant referees. The cost of playoff games, including referee payments at the field, will be SPLIT EQUALLY by the teams.
If a playoff game is tied after 90 minutes, teams will play two fifteen minute periods of extra-time followed by a penalty shootout if necessary.
Please note that ALL GAMES beyond Week 19 are SUBJECT TO CHANGE based on Cup play and season ending schedule optimization.
Teams should be prepared to play EVERY WEEKEND. The League will endeavour to provide as much notice as reasonably possible for schedule updates but teams should be prepared to play on shorter than usual notice.

Promotion Playoffs:
Relegation Playoffs:
The last placed team in each pool will be relegated to Division 3. The second-to-last team in Pool A will play the third-to-last team in Pool B. The second-to-last team in Pool B will play the third-to-last team in Pool A The winning team of the Division 2 Relegation Playoff - Second Phase will enter Division 2 in 2025-26. The losing team of the Division 2 Relegation Playoff - Second Phase will have the OPTION to play in the Division 3 Promotion Playoff - FINAL Phase. *NOTE - There is anticipated to be a multi-week gap between the date of the Division 2 Relegation Playoff - Second Phase and the Division 3 Promotion Playoff - FINAL Phase due to expanded Division 3 Cup play and playoffs.
The losing team of the Division 2 Relegation Playoff - Second Phase game may advise that they wish to forfeit the opportunity to play in the Division 3 Promotion Playoff - FINAL Phase due to this gap at no cost. If the game is forfeited, the team will be relegated to Division 3 for the 2025-26 VMSL season.

Promotion Playoffs:
The winners of each of Pools A through D will be promoted to Division 2. The runners-up of each of Pools A through D will play-off against each other. The teams will be seeded from best record to worst record, based on Points Per Game, to determine the matchups.
NOTE: There is no change to the previously communicated Division 3 Relegation format.

For the Division 3 Promotion Playoff - 2nd Place, Division 3 Promotion Playoff - Second Phase, Division 3 Promotion Playoff - FINAL Phase, and Division 3 Relegation Playoff - FINAL Phase:

Fines will be charged to teams failing to be ready to set up a field. All playoff games will feature a centre referee ONLY. The cost of playoff games, including referee payments at the field, will be SPLIT EQUALLY by the teams. If a playoff game is tied after 90 minutes, teams will proceed directly to penalty kicks.
